DNA Testing - Options

Paternity Testing

Paternity Testing simply means, "to establish or rule out a male as the biological father of a child or children." In this case, both the child or children and possible father are tested together using a cheek swab test, which is just as accurate as blood and less painful. Although including the mother of the child or children will provide a more accurate DNA test result, it is not always mandatory to include her. Tests can either be legally-binding with notarized results or non-legally-binding, just for your knowledge only. Paternity Testing can be used for many purposes besides just for knowledge such as, adoption confirmation, swapped or missing children, or for United States Immigration. In cases where a father is missing or deceased, but the relationship still needs to be confirmed, there are other types of tests that can be good alternatives based on the relative that are available in place of a possible father. More information is found below...

Legally-Binding/Court Admissible: "Legal" testing means that you will need to have your DNA collected by a professional in a legal manner. The collector will check your ID, take your photo and have you sign a chain of custody DNA submission form. In return, you will get a test result that is notarized and can be used for any legal purpose. The test result will never expire and can be used at any point in the future.

Minor Children: If a child is a minor under the age of 18, the child's legal parent or guardian must be present in order to consent to DNA testing. If a male is bringing in a minor child for a legally-binding test without the mother present, he must either provide a court order, the child's birth certificate showing him as the father, or he must fill out a release form proclaiming that he has the legal authority to conduct the test without the mother. It is always best to include the mother in the DNA as her participation greatly increases the accuracy of the test

Legal tests are best if you think that you will need the results for ANY legal purpose now or in the future, such as: birth certificates; child support; child custody; health insurance; life insurance or death benefits; such as social security; IRS taxes; estate settlements; evidence for U.S. Immigration and more. . .

Non-Legal/Private: A non-legal DNA test simply means that the results CANNOT be used as evidence in a court of law, or any other legal reason, because the DNA samples were not collected by an independent third party through ID check, chain of custody and photo documentation. Therefore, the donors cannot be proven to be the correct people that the report states they are and therefore the results report cannot be notarized. It is common for donors to go to a clinic for a NON-LEGAL test, the only difference is that the collector will not document whom you are, and they will simply perform the DNA cheek swab DNA collection for you.

Quality: Our Non-Legal DNA tests are processed using the same lab, state-of-the-art equipment, technicians, PhDs and reporting standards as a legally-binding test. Non-legal tests offer the same standard, quality, and carry the same guarantee. The only difference is that the test results report is not notarized like a legal test is and, therefore, cannot be used for any legal purpose. However, please keep in mind, that you have an option to upgrade to a notarized result IF you ask for your collection to be performed in a legal manner. You must request this services as an option when setting up your DNA collection and you will have to pay the difference in the price plus a re-print fee to acquire a notarized result. If you deny or do not request this upgrade service as an option and you decide post-testing that you need a legally-binding test, you will need to retest and pay for all testing fees again.

Paternity Testing Guarantee

Paternity results are guaranteed as either 0% or 99.9+% for father/child testing or 99.99+% for mother/father/child testing. In very rare cases, and at any lab, genetic mutations can disrupt DNA testing. Test results are not guaranteed when these rare genetic mutations occur and interrupt testing. In cases with genetic mutations, additional charges may apply (upon client approval) for extended testing so that the minimum 99.9+% probability of paternity may be achieved. The mother is highly encouraged to participate during the first round of testing, at no extra charge lab charge, which will typically avoid and usurp any mutation issues and yield a higher positive percentage; adding mother later will incur a fee. Adding the mother to the paternity test will increase the accuracy of the test!

Testing Turn Around and Payment: DNA test results will be provided in approximately 2-business days (Monday - Friday, except holidays) from the date all of the samples are received in the lab, unless otherwise agreed. Standard Results may possibly take longer than 2-business days as the lab WILL NOT RUSH quality results. Results WILL NOT be released until payment is received in full. DNA Identifiers charges 100% of the fee, for services rendered, prior to laboratory testing. When purchasing our test, the client in turn agrees to pay for all services rendered and understands that there will be no refunds. DNA Identifiers is in no way responsible for the genetic outcome, or lack of, for any test and therefore results, or lack of, will not be subject to refund. We accept VISA, MasterCard, American Express as well as other forms of payment.

Maternity Testing

Maternity Testing simply means, "to establish or rule out a female as the biological mother of a child or children." In this case, both the child or children and possible mother are tested together using a cheek swab test. Tests can either be legally-binding with notarized results or non-legally-binding, just for your knowledge only. Maternity Testing can be used for many purposes besides just for knowledge such as, adoption confirmation, swapped or missing children, or for United States Immigration, to name a few. In cases where a mother is missing or deceased, but the relationship still needs to be confirmed, there are other types of tests that can be good alternatives based on the relative that are available in place of a possible mother. More information is found below...

Legally-Binding/Court Admissible: "Legal" testing means that you will need to have your DNA collected by a professional in a legal manner. In return, you will get a test result that is notarized and can be used for any legal purpose. The test result will never expire and can be used at any point in the future.

If a child is a minor under the age of 18, the childss legal parent or guardian must be present in order to consent to DNA testing. If a female is not a biological mother of a child on that child's birth certificate, but she is bringing in a minor child for a legally binding test, that child must be accompanied by a legal guardian or adoptive parent. If none are available, she must either provide a court order or fill out a release form proclaiming that she has the legal authority to conduct the test without the minor's guardian present.

Legal tests are best if you think that you will need the results for ANY legal purpose now or in the future, such as: birth certificates; child support; child custody; health insurance; life insurance or death benefits; such as social security; IRS taxes; estate settlements; evidence for U.S. Immigration and more. . .

Quality You Can Trust: Our Non-Legal DNA tests are processed using the same lab, equipment, technicians, PhDs and reporting standards as a legally-binding test. They offer the same standard, quality, and carry the same guarantee. The only difference is that the test results report is not notarized like a legal test is. Sibling Testing

Siblingship Testing simply means to "establish the probability of relationship between brothers and sisters". This type of DNA test involves testing two or more people who potentially share the same biological parent or parents. Like any lab Siblingship testing is a little more difficult because of the number of genetic combination that are possible between a parent and child. Sibling DNA Testing is by far the most difficult test in all of the DNA relationship tests available at any lab. Unless siblings are identical twins, they will have been given different sets of DNA from their parents. Sometimes even true full siblings will not match very well, and therefore the test is not very conclusive. When testing two individuals that might only share one parent, the test even more difficult and not nearly as conclusive. Each parent gives a child half of her/his DNA, so it is always wise to include the mother since she makes up half of the child's DNA. Each time you add a person the results tend to get stronger.

Legally-Binding/Court Admissible: "Legal" testing means that we will check your ID, take your photo and have you sign a chain of custody. In return, you will get a test result that is notarized and can be used for any legal purpose. The test result will never expire and can be used at any point in the future.

Legal tests are best if you think that you will need the results for ANY legal purpose now or in the future. (Such as birth certificate changes, health insurance, life insurance or death benefits, such as social security, etc.)

Non-legal/Private: A non-legal DNA test simply means that the results CANNOT be used as evidence in a court of law because the DNA samples were not collected on by an independent third party through ID check, chain of custody and photo documentation. Therefore, the donors cannot be proven to be the correct people that the report states they are. It is common for donors to go to a clinic for a NON-LEGAL test, the only difference is that the collector will not document whom you are, and they will simply perform the DNA cheek swab DNA collection for you.

Our Non-Legal DNA tests are the same standard, and quality. The only difference is that the test results report is not notarized, like it would be in a Legal test. However, please keep in mind, once you perform a Non-Legal test it cannot be made legally admissible at any future date, even if you were collected on at a clinic or mobile collector.

Sibling Testing Guarantee

Although our DNA technology is state of the art, DNA Testing on siblings can be very difficult and results are not guaranteed. (This is true at any lab.) Each child receives a completely different set of DNA from their parents. Sometimes siblings share very common DNA and sometimes they do not. Therefore, sibling testing might not be very strong even if two individuals are fully related. Sibling testing is even more complicated when individuals share only one parent. Rare family DNA will always boost a test result, as will including known parents of a donor. If the results are unsatisfactory, which is no fault of the laboratory's but is based on available DNA and true family relationships, the client has an option to purchase extended testing. It is always best for males to perform a Y-Chromosome test to see if they share the same male relative and for both females and males to perform a Mitochondrial test to see if they share a common female relative.

Testing Times: The results will be provided in approximately 3-5 business days (Monday - Friday, except holidays) from the date all of the samples are received in the lab, unless otherwise agreed. Standard Results may possibly take longer than 3-5 business days as the lab WILL NOT RUSH quality results. It is always best for males to perform a Y-Chromosome test to see if they share the same male relative and for both females and males to perform a Mitochondrial test to see if they share a common female relative.

Grandparentage/Grandparent Testing

Grandparent DNA Testing helps to establish a Maternal or Paternal relationship. In cases where a suspected Mother or Father are deceased, missing, or unavailable to participate in genetic testing, both of the Paternal or Maternal Grandparents can be tested in order to determine the likelihood of Grandparentage. If both of the Grandparents are not available, we can run a single grandparent test, but it will not be as strong unless there is highly rare family DNA which can boost the results. Including one known parent of a child in a Grandparent genetic test is incredibly helpful.

In a case where both Grandparents are not available to contribute samples, a Family Reconstruction Test must take place. Reconstruction can include any known biological family members of the Possible Father or Possible Mother, including their siblings.

However, please keep in mind, once you perform a Non-Legal test it cannot be made legally admissible at any future date, even if you were collected on at a clinic or mobile collector.

Grandparent Testing Guarantee

Grandparent DNA Tests are not guaranteed. Although we can test with just one grandparent, when using Grandparents in place of a parent, it is always best to use both biological grandparent of the father or mother. This is because both individuals will make up the full genetic code of their offspring. In paternity cases where both grandparents and the mother of the child are tested with the child, the result is typically a 99.99+%, but can be higher or lower based on given DNA. As in all relationship tests, genetic mutations can be identified, and possibly interfere, with DNA testing. In cases with genetic mutations, additional charges may apply (upon client approval) for extended testing so that optimal results may be achieved. The mother is highly encouraged to participate during the first round of testing, to avoid and usurp any mutation issues and yield a higher positive percentage; adding mother later will incur a fee.

Testing Times: The results will be provided in approximately 3-5 business days (Monday - Friday, except holidays) from the date all of the samples are received in the lab, unless otherwise agreed.
